Questions About Choosing the Right Level

Answers to questions UK parents ask most before booking a free demo class.

Year groups map directly to levels: Years 7–9 sit within KS3, Years 10–11 are KS4 (GCSE), and Years 12–13 are A-Level. The 11+ is separate — it is an entrance exam for grammar and independent schools, usually taken in Year 5 or early Year 6. If you are unsure, the free demo class will confirm the right starting point.

Yes — we match tutors to your child's actual level, not just their year group. If a Year 9 student has gaps from earlier years, the tutor will start by closing those gaps using KS3-appropriate methods and language. There is no shame in revisiting earlier material. Skipping it is what creates problems at GCSE.

Yes — and many do. A student who starts with us at the end of KS3 typically continues into GCSE tutoring with the same tutor. We plan the transition so there is no disruption. When your child moves up a level, the syllabus changes but the relationship with their tutor does not need to.
