Is this for you

Who a GCSE Tutor in Bradford Is For

This is for you if

  • Your child is in Year 10 or 11 and hovering around a 3 or a 4

Close enough to see the next grade, not yet sure how to reach it. This is where one-to-one lessons move fastest.

  • They want A-level maths or a science at sixth form

Dixons and Greenhead both ask for a 6 or a 7 in maths for those courses. A pass alone won’t get them on.

  • They’re on Foundation tier maths and capable of more

Foundation tops out at a 5. We build the Higher content so you have something real to take to school.

  • They sit Combined Science, like most Bradford pupils

Two grades ride on one course. We teach it as the double qualification it is.

Probably not, if

  • You want a classroom in Bradford to drop them at

We teach online only, on Google Meet. No travel, no waiting room.

  • The subject is a modern language

We tutor maths, English and the sciences. We don’t tutor languages, and we’d rather say so now.

  • GCSEs are done and A-levels have started

That has its own page: A-level tutoring.

Why a pass isn’t enough

A 4 Gets Them Through. A 6 Gets Them In.

A grade 4 is a pass, and it’s easy to think that’s the finish line. It isn’t. The sixth forms Bradford students aim for set their own bar, and for the courses that lead somewhere, that bar is higher. Dixons Sixth Form wants a 7 in maths before a student can start A-level Maths or Physics. Greenhead College wants three grade 6s. Bradford Grammar’s sixth form wants a 7 in every subject taken on.

So the real question isn’t “will my child pass?” It’s “will they get the grade their next step needs?” In a class of thirty, a gap from Year 8 can sit unnoticed until the mocks. One to one, the tutor finds it in the first lesson.

It’s the same one-to-one approach behind all our online GCSE tutoring, aimed at the grades the sixth forms around Bradford set. For more on the line between a pass and a strong pass, read our guide to grade 4 versus grade 5.

Board and tier

Taught to the Paper Your Child Will Actually Sit

Bradford schools don’t all sit the same exams. Ilkley Grammar sits Edexcel for maths, Titus Salt sits AQA, and Bradford Grammar School sits IGCSE. Revise from the wrong board’s papers and your child gets a false sense of how ready they are. Your tutor checks the board in the first lesson and teaches from that board’s own papers and mark schemes from then on.
Tier matters just as much. A student entered for Foundation maths can’t get above a 5, however hard they work on the day. If your child is capable of more, we build the Higher material in lessons, so when the school decides, the evidence is on your side.

How it works

What Weekly Lessons Look Like

No generic revision course. Every lesson works on what your child needs next.
  1. Free first lesson

    Find the step that broke

A student behind in maths is rarely behind on this week’s topic. The break happened earlier, on fractions, negative numbers or rearranging a formula. The tutor traces the mistakes back to that step, and you see it too.
  2. The first weeks

    Rebuild, then catch up

The broken step gets taught again properly, then the current classwork goes back on top of solid ground. This is the part that turns a 3 into a 5, and it’s the part there’s no time for in a class of thirty.
  3. Around the mocks

Turn the mock paper into a to-do list

Whatever the mock score, the paper comes to the lesson. Every lost mark is sorted: didn’t know it, knew it but slipped, or misread the question. Each one gets a fix.
  4. The run-in

Past papers, timed, on the right board

Full papers to time, and the command words (describe, explain, evaluate) that cost marks on questions your child understands. Lessons move free with 24 hours’ notice, so Eid, family events and school trips never mean a lost week.
Revision method matters too. We teach active recall and spaced repetition alongside the subject, so the work sticks between lessons.

Common Questions

GCSE Tutoring in Bradford: Common Questions

Yes, online. Lessons are one to one on Google Meet, so a student anywhere in the Bradford district gets the same tutor every week, with nobody driving across the city.

It varies by school and by subject. Ilkley Grammar sits Edexcel for maths and AQA for English, Titus Salt sits AQA, and Bradford Grammar School sits IGCSE. Your tutor checks the board in the first lesson and teaches from that board’s own papers.

More than a pass for the popular courses. Dixons Sixth Form asks for a 7 in maths for A-level Maths or Physics, Greenhead College asks for three grade 6s, and Bradford Grammar School’s sixth form asks for a 7 in each subject taken on. Check the prospectus for the exact course your child wants.

The school makes the decision, but a tutor can help your child earn it. Foundation tops out at a grade 5, so it decides whether a 6 or 7 is possible at all. We teach the Higher content and give you evidence from lessons to take to school.
